David Macfarlane grew up in Greeley, Colorado, the eighth in a family of nine children. He was tremendously impacted there by an innovative elementary school teacher, Karen Thomas, who taught him in both fourth and fifth grades and helped him develop a love for learning and a vision of what education can be like when the right ingredients are present.
David holds a bachelor's degree in business management and a master's degree in instructional psychology and technology, both from BYU. He has spent his career in the educational programs of the LDS Church as a teacher, trainer, and administrator. He currently works in the Curriculum Division of the Church's Missionary Department.
David is married to the former Danielle Jorgensen, who is also a graduate of BYU's IP&T program. They reside in Orem and are the parents of four children, including a kindergartner and second-grader at Franklin Discovery Academy.
