I am thrilled to be joining the inaugural teaching team at Franklin Discovery Academy! I love working with young children, seeing the wheels turning in their heads, and catching the moment of discovery lighting up their eyes. I am in wholehearted agreement with the missions and education model of Franklin, and am excited to facilitate the interactive and hands-on learning of your children. I believe that the best learning environment feels secure, comfortable, and fun! When I first heard about Franklin’s opening, I knew I wanted my own son to attend. He is so excited to begin second grade this fall.
I grew up in Illinois and attended Brigham Young University, where I received a B.S. and an M.S. in biology, with a focus on the ecology and conservation of the delightful kangaroo mouse of western Utah. I have a passion for teaching children science, but find just as much joy in art, literature, and music. I’ve been privileged to have experience teaching a wide range of ages as a graduate-level T.A., a life museum educator, a cooperative preschool leader, and a personal tutor. Now I accept the honor and responsibility of helping your children fulfill their academic potential and embrace the school year to its fullest.
I live in Provo with an adventurous anthropologist (my husband), and our two boys, ages 7 and 2. In 2015, we lived on the small island of Misima in Papua New Guinea for four months as part of my husband's dissertation research. This was an educational and life-changing experience, to say the least! In any spare time, I love to read, garden, and crochet; yet like any parent, most of my time is spent wrangling, feeding, and loving our two small ones.
