What happens after I enter Open Enrollment?

Students who have entered open enrollment by Dec. 31, 2018, will be notified in January 2019 of enrollment status for the 2019-20 school year. This application is for the 2019-20 school year only. If you wish to transfer your child for the remainder of the 2018-19 school year, please fill out the 2018-19 application or call the front office at 801-785-6500 for current availability information.

The Open Enrollment deadline for 2019-20 KINDERGARTEN is Dec. 31, 2018.  A second open enrollment lottery for kindergarten and grades 1-6 will be held March 1, 2019.  Enrollment applications dated on or after March 1, 2019 will be processed on a space available basis.  

Residents of Vineyard and Lindon are given a neighborhood enrollment preference.

An offer of admission is made via email.  Offers are made on an individual basis to each student and not by family. We do our best to keep families together. The Offer of Admission and Registration form must be signed within 5 days or the offer is considered declined.  Parents must also submit any required supporting documentation such as birth certificates and immunization records, within 30 days of registration or the offer is considered declined. A student who does not arrive for the first day of school is considered declined, unless the parent has made contacted the office.  Once an offer is declined a parent must start over in the open enrollment process and receive a new acceptance letter.  

Initial open slots for 2019-20 are:

  • Kindergarten: 120
  • First grade: 5
  • Second grade: 5
  • Third grade: 5
  • Fourth grade: 5
  • Fifth grade: 3
  • Sixth grade: 2

Additional slots may open based on how many current students return.  However, these initial slots will be filled at a minimum.  Seats are filled in order of Kindergarten to Sixth grade.

It is very important that supporting documents are submitted by the listed dates for completing the registration packet and before your students attend. Documents can be emailed, faxed, or mailed. Please note, by Utah Statue, you can only Register at one school at any given time. 


After filling out the Registration Packet, you must submit supporting documents in order to finalize enrollment.  Students may not begin attending classes until after all documents have been received. Documents must be submitted within 30 days of completing the registration packet.  

Registration Information includes:

  • Completed Registration Forms 
  • Original Birth Certificate 
  • Current Immunization Record
  • Accommodation Information (if applicable)
  • Current copies 504 or IEP plans
  • Franklin Discovery Academy will request records from your student's current school upon registration
  • Proof of Custody / Guardianship (if applicable)

Utah State Law governs student transfers between Utah’s public charter schools and school districts.

If a student has accepted enrollment to Franklin Discovery Academy for the school year and the parent wishes to withdraw the student from Franklin Discovery Academy for enrollment in another Utah charter school or school district, the parent of a student enrolled at Franklin Discovery Academy must obtain approval from both the Franklin Discovery Academy administration and the Utah school district or charter school in which enrollment is sought. The Franklin Discovery Academy administration will provide such approval once notice of approval by the new school has been received.

If a student wishes to enroll at Franklin Discovery Academy but has accepted enrollment to another Utah charter school for the school year, the student’s parent must obtain approval from both the Franklin Discovery Academy administration and the Utah charter school in which the student is already enrolled. Student records will be released as soon as all appropriate paperwork is completed.
